Numerical investigation on the bubble rising dynamics in ratchet channels filled with viscoelastic liquids

In this paper, we investigated the dynamics of a bubble rising inside ratchet channels filled with viscoelastic liquids by means volume-of-fluid-based direct numerical simulations. The exponential Phan–Thien–Tanner constitutive model was used to describe rheological behaviors nonlinear fluid. effects fluid elasticity [characterized relaxation time (λ)] and angle (θ) are mainly discussed in respect (e.g., velocity, flow field, stress etc.). Our results found that rise velocity increases elasticity, average can be reduced up 20% at low channels. addition, periodic arrangement influences distribution vorticity component, also deformation entangled polymers flow. It observed distributions field trace conformation tensor change significantly dense channel compared sparse one. Interestingly, gradually after emerges from convergent section, whereas it decreases on approaching section. dynamical bubbles manipulated surrounding viscoelasticity channels, which will useful oil extraction chemical process involving complex non-Newtonian fluids.
